A lot really, especially if you expect on receiving RSVPs after May 11. The United States Postal Service just announced a two cent price hike, from 42 cents to 44 cents for a regular First-Class Mail stamp. Usually RSVPs are stamped, for the ease of the guest. To make sure that you get all of your RSVPs back, make sure that you account for this price change. If your invitation only requires a First-Class Mail stamp, consider getting the Forever stamp, which can be used after the price change. If your invite needs more postage, or you want a nicer looking stamp for your invitations, look at these new stamps unveiled by the USPS last week:

Wedding_Ring_Money.jpgWe all know the current economic status is pretty poor. With the U.S. recession being the worst in decades, surprisingly this can mean good things if you are getting married.

Many companies are offering "economic stimulus" discounts. Look at your current wedding budget and consider things that you want, but may have left out because it was too expensive. For instance, wedding planners are usually a costly expense that many couples forgo. Doing some research shows many wedding planners are offering this "economic stimulus" discount, providing their services for drastically lower rates. Some even offer a few hours for free, which can be a huge help to a couple without and other help. Photography services, honeymoon destination spots, and even caterers are offering major discounts for products and services.

Obviously, there are also many tax breaks available to married couples that are double what a single person gets. President Obama's new Stimulus Plan gives married couples even more tax breaks on new home and car purchases, and double the amount of any tax credits.

A Bridesmaid Video

| | Comments (0)

Sometimes we all need a little bit of help with understanding the role of the bridesmaid and how exactly she fits into a wedding. This awesome video we've got helps with all of these questions that come up. It provides a great source of history of the bridesmaid in countries from all over the world and it ties in their role in history at weddings to their role now. This little video is so cute and helpful that even Martha Stewart felt inclined to feature it on her own bridal blog on August 13. Cool, right?

Gwen stefani wedding cake.jpg

Celebrities get hitched all the time these days. It seems absolutely natural that they would meet each other, date, fall in love, and marry, right? After all, celebrities have a right to want to share their lives with someone else who understands what it's like to live in the spotlight if they want to. The cool part, I'd say, about celebrity weddings is that they tend to be relatively extravagant. Going above and beyond the norm with weddings seems to be the expertise of celebrities when they marry. That's exactly why I'm starting this celebrity wedding spotlight section here on the site.

Today's spotlight is Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale. These two lovebirds tied the knot back in 2002. Both musicians who had been successful in the rock industry, they always seemed like quite the perfect match to me.

THE STORY:
Gwen was 32 and Gavin was 34 at the time of their wedding. They dated for 6 years after having met backstage in 1995 before Gavin finally popped the question to her-on New Years Day. The two married in both London and Los Angeles. London was the intimate wedding for close friends and family while the Los Angeles wedding was designed for their celebrity and industry friends in California. They kept the wedding under tight wraps until it was over and done with as to avoid unwanted media attention.

The Miraflores Trio

| | Comments (0)

There's something already charming enough about beautiful girls playing string instruments with passion. Deck these girls out in flawless (and timeless) dresses and you've got something truly stunning. The Miraflores Trio, based out of New York, have fit the description above precisely. These three girls, Yumi Cho, Sarah Koo, and Theresa Kim, seem to floor audiences everywhere they go with their talent. The girls certainly know what they're doing. Then again, considering that they each have degrees from Juliard, no one should be surprised. Combining the sounds of piano, violin, and cello, these girls have been playing together for years and they have honed their gifts remarkably. They set out on a tour last year with what else to wear other than the remarkable dresses from The Dessy Group. Each girl had four gowns on tour with them; tailored for each girl's body.

Here are some of the gowns they chose.

Are you a fan of Lela Rose? Not sure you know who she is? Think again..you probably do. She's a Texan fashion designer, serving the likes of Jessica Simpson, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, and the Bush family...just to name a few. She's a designer with taste and flare...which, as you probably know, can be very difficult to achieve. From a line of shoes at Payless to a vintage clothing company she started when she was still in college, Lela is well known in the fashion industry-and for good reason! (Um...SHE ROCKS).

wwd_snip.jpg

So how does this apply to bridesmaids and brides?

Oh, it's simple: She's releasing a bridesmaid collection. The collection will include 12 different dresses and they're all bound to be gorgeous. The collection will be released through The Dessy Group.

This is going to be a hit, so make sure you keep your eyes open for these new gowns.

wedding flip flopsYou'll flip for Dessy's new wedding flip flops!

Flip Flops in Bridesmaid Colors! Choose white for bridal flip flops or custom colors for the bridesmaids for a perfect match with your wedding theme. Ideal for beach weddings, they'll be fun at your bachelorette party or the wedding dance, too.

Don't limit your thinking to the wedding. Fashion savvy gals will want a pair to match every swimsuit they own. The flip flops will pack small in your beach bag to protect tender feet from hot sand and look adorable every step of the way. Order a matching fabric flower for your beach hat while you're at it!

wedding flip flopsThe flip flops come in a beautifully made chiffon pouch with a matching satin drawstring. It's a delightful extra touch, and the pouch is so elegant that mine will likely do duty as a lingerie bag when I travel.

The flip flops have nonslip rubber soles and are made with Dessy's own matte satin in a rainbow of colors to match bridesmaid colors by Dessy, After Six and Alfred Sung. They'll make fun bridesmaid gifts, especially if you pair them with Dessy's matching satin totebags.

Note that you'll need to think ahead and order early. The flip flops are made to order in the custom colors you specify so you'll need to plan on eight to ten weeks for delivery.

Here's a riddle for you: What's more expensive than being a bridesmaid? Naomi Cambell's legal bills, the war in Iraq, hybrid cars and....being a best man!

According to a recent Morgan Stanley Credit Card survey, the unlikely suspect who accrues the most debt in a wedding party is none other than the best man himself. Despite the absence of expenses like bridesmaids' dresses and wedding showers, the best man is still tagged with the greatest wedding expenditures, which are estimated to be a "staggering" 530 pounds. From the bachelor party, groomsmen attire and wedding gift, the best man spends significantly more to the bridesmaids' paltry-by-comparison 324 pounds. Plus, bridesmaids' gifts are always better than groomsmen gifts.

Bridesmaid Masquerade

| | Comments (0)

If you think your bridesmaid dress belongs in a costume store, consider this tale from the nuptial crypt: Louisiana couple Joe Bison and Jennifer Krohn got married on Halloween in a gothic-themed ceremony, with the happy couple dressed as vampires and all the bridesmaids and groomsmen dressed up in costumes. The flower girl even flung plastic spiders instead of rose petals.

Freaky? Definitely. But with bridesmaids sporting everything from Tina Turner costumes to authentic Chinese dress, maybe a little refreshing too. Then again, maybe they just saw that Tim Burton movie too many times.

Any bridesmaid, bride, junior bridesmaid, or warm-blooded female ran, not walked, in her best stilettos to see the movie "In Her Shoes," based on the book by best-loved author Jennifer Weiner. While there, we hope you took some tips from Cameron Diaz's awesome bridesmaid style.

The sexy Diaz, for the first time in the movie, chose not to overwhelm Toni Collette's more subtle loveliness. In a delicate pink shift, and simple sandals, Diaz allowed the bride her moment of beauty; and it was spectacular. Copy Diaz's demure bridesmaid style with dresses like this.

By the way, did you know Jennifer Weiner also got married in a Halloween-themed ceremony...

So you got yet another 'Will You Be My Bridesmaid?' card in the mail. If you’re feeling down about being a bridesmaid instead of a bride, consider this new piece of information: the National Marriage Project at Rutger’s University revealed that later marriage rates are strongly associated with higher levels of education. Next time you steel your teeth as you slide into your oversized bridesmaid gown for yet another fitting, remind yourself that it is your highly enlightened intellectual state that resigns you to being a bridesmaid and not a bride. Now that you know being a bridesmaid is such a smart pastime, you might want to increase your chances of becoming one. If so, middle America is the spot for you. According to a new study by the Census Bureau, middle America has younger marriage rates than its coastal cousins. For a sure shot at bridesmaid status, move to Utah, which takes the cake for young marrieds with the average bride being 21.9 and the average groom being 23.9!

Word has it hotel heiress Paris Hilton called off her engagement to shipping heir Paris Latsis, because she is “too young to settle down.” We suspect the breakup may have had more to do with Latsis’ refusal to remove his tattoos, which Hilton had earlier stated was a stipulation to her affection. Hey Latsis, if you’re looking to smooth things over with the sought-after socialite, we suggest getting a tattoo cover kit. And while you’re at it, get a job. And I'll send back my bridesmaid dress.

Gossip columnists are abuzz with news of the Zellweger-Chesney split, which occurred after only four months of marriage. The couple married May 9 in the Virgin Islands after about a day of dating. Word has it the split was caused by Zellweger’s urgent desire to have children, undaunted by the fact she did not even know her groom.
"Her biological clock is ticking loudly," a Zellweger insider tells the paper. "She is desperate to have children. Renée's understanding was that Kenny wanted a family, too. It was Kenny who got cold feet."

Apparently, Zelleweger’s clock is making too much noise and scaring off country singers, comedians ( Jim Carrey) and cover men (ex beau George Clooney of Men’s Vogue fame). Somehow she needs to muffle the ticking of her biological clock long enough to snare another unsuspecting groom. Good luck Renee!

The Wonders of Wedding Tea

| | Comments (0)
This past March, researchers Dr. Monica Myklebust and Jenna Wunde from the University of Michigan have taken it upon themselves to design a “Healing Foods” pyramid so complicated it outriddles the Sphynx. Two years in the making, the brightly colored, 10 layered triangle is based on the idea of healthy, mindful eating. These years of research have yielded a cornucopia of consumable goods designed to ward off autoimmune conditions, chronic pain, cancer and heart disease. Unlike the strictly food pyramids of the past, this affirmitive action pyramid has expanded to include beverages too. Namely, tea. Yes, it seems that in the two women’s quest for the ultimate healing remedy they have rather anticlimactically come to the conclusion that the British have known for years: for health and sympathy, tea works best. In celebration of this mind-boggling breakthrough in health research, why not offer personalized tea bags as the wedding favor in your upcoming nuptials? These trendy little packages come with cute descriptions, will apparently increase the health of your guests, and will give these two women some badly needed PR for their blundersome, cumbersome “discovery.”

Paris's Rock

| | Comments (0)

Hard upon the agony of decision that Paris suffered in simply choosing a ring comes the pain and suffering of actually wearing one of them.

Apparently, complains the Hilton heiress, her new engagement ring is so heavy, it makes her finger hurt. The 24-carat rock has been deemed unmanageable for everyday wear. Her BF, Mr. Paris has stepped up to the plate and purchased her a more wearable, rock-less band for everyday wear.

It's just one hurdle after another for her. Engagements shouldn't be this difficult, eh?

No word yet on who will be designing her dress or when and where the actual nuptial event will take place. Stay tuned!

We all know the old wedding saw; "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue". To which Paris Hilton can also now add this new (for her) phrase, "something that can't be bought".

This just in from Yahoo! News:

Hotel heiress Paris Hilton has reportedly been denied permission to marry in the same place as Princess Diana, with Church officials in London having declared her ineligible.

Paris had declared recently that she wanted to walk down the aisle with fiance Paris Latsis in Britain's most important cathedral, St. Paul's.

"I've got my heart set on a ceremony in St Paul's. I've always wanted to be a princess on my big day and only a wedding in England could make that happen", she was quoted as saying.

However the Church authorities have ruled out any possibilities of accomodating the 24-year-old actress as the Church is open only to members of the royalty.

"Only royalty can marry on the cathedral floor. You can't buy your way in, no matter how rich you are", Hello magazine quoted a representative as saying.

Sorry Paris. Looks like St. Paul's isn't going to budge, for love or money. Here... if you want to feel like a princess on your big day, try wearing a sweet tiara. I know it's just not the same but it's the best I can offer.

Honeymoon Thoughts

| | Comments (0)

Honeymoon Thoughts

Rumor has it that the word 'honeymoon' has its origins in an ancient Northern European custom in which newlyweds, for the first month of their marriage, daily drank a cup together of honeyed wine (known as 'mead'). This practice dates all the way back to the Fifth Century AD.

According to the same source, there is also an alternative Northern European traditional practice, known as 'hjunottsmanathr'. In this tradition, the bride is abducted and held captive in a secret location for at least a month. It's important to note, however, that this is a folkloric explanation and that the original meaning of the word is obscure.

I turned to My Swedish Friend for confirmation or denial on these 'traditional customs'. This is what she has to say about Northern European honeymoon traditions:

"The Swedish language has two words that are used to describe what we think of as a 'honeymoon'; 'bröllopsresa' which literally means 'the wedding travel' and 'smekmånad' which refers to the month following a wedding. So they'll say 'fire smeksmånad' for 'go on honeymoon' but 'bröllopsresa' is more commonly used to describe a honeymoon. The word can be literally translated out as 'bröllop', meaning 'wedding', and 'resa', meaning travel.

I can't stop myself. I just have to know EVERYTHING there is to know about Paris Squared. I don't know why so bear with me. Here's the latest:

They've set the date for December 20th, according to their wedding registry on WeddingChannel.com.

A further look at their registry reveals a list of rather mundane items. Lots and lots of Lenox and Vera Wang glasses are apparently needed (wine, water and high ball). Also there are requests for mundane items such as Shark vacuum cleaners, a Fry Daddy (a Fry Daddy? Do either one of those two know how to operate one?). And, lastly, Calvin Clein and Lauren sheets - four sets of Lauren king size sheets and eleven sets of Lauren pillow cases. Eleven. That's twenty-two pillows. I can see why they need a king size bed.

What blows me away is the absolute mundanity of it all. The only expensive thing they are asking for is a Donna Karan Duvet (at $250). Everything else is very affordable by those of us less-well-off who might wish to send them a gift.

Glasses, Fry Daddies, and Shark vacuum cleaners are just not that exciting. For my money (and since it looks like they need glasses for entertaining), I suggest a personalized Margarita glass - you only have to have one name personalized on it. Bonus!

Her name is Paris. His name is Paris. And if they have kids, they will name them either Paris (if it's a girl) or London (if it's a boy). Personally, I rather like Manhattan as a baby name (either girl or boy!).

After dating for eight months, Paris Squared (their media nickname) have decided to tie the knot! I tried to find out where they were registered but no luck so far. What do you get the couple who probably has everything? The Hiltons are worth millions. Paris Latsis is the grandson of Greek shipping tycoon John Latsis, whose family's fortune ranks a respectible No. 54 in the world. It's not like they don't already own everything they ever wanted.

Personally, my opinion is that a girl can never have enough pearls. I'd buy him an electric razor.

It should be easy for them to get a discount on engraving and monograms, as long as they don't mind not keeping the bathrobes and towels straight. How do they keep their names straight? He calls her 'Princess' and she calls him 'Babaluna' (moonbaby?).

Can't wait to see the wedding dress and bridesmaids!

Fortunoff is having their Wedding Survival Parties again: May 15th through the 22nd in New York, Long Island and New Jersey. Should be a good place to get advice and maybe shed the my-bridesmaids-hate-each-other blues. They're promising cool prizes (including wedding bands, by the way). If you win the grill and don't want it, I've been looking for a while.

UPDATE, 2009: Fortunoff has filed for bankruptcy protection so don't expect another Wedding Survival Party anytime soon. We'll have to figure out our own ways to survive!

Monday, May 11th, on a beach on the Virgin Island of St. John, Renee Zellweger and Kenny Chesney were married in a quiet beach side ceremony. Renee wore a lovely strapless wedding dress designed by Caroline Herrara and Kenny was barefoot. Somebody should've suggested he get some "Just Married" flip-flops. No word on whether the bride was wearing shoes or not.

It was a small ceremony with no bridesmaids and few onlookers.

Sounds very nice!

It's minutes before the wedding. Your bridesmaids are close to rioting as they try to get their hair in order. Chaos threatens. Groom starts to get nervous. Future in-laws and relatives begin glancing for the doorway, wondering if you've taken a flier.

But it's just the hair. What to do?

For an easy way to add sparkle to bridesmaid hairstyles, check out the Wedding Hair Jewels from Weddingstar. They simply twist into most hairstyles. Choose classic pearls or Swarovski crystals in colors to complement the bridesmaid dresses.

May we recommend the Bridesmaid.com Interactive Planner? It's neat, I promise. You can select a style, or enter your own, enter the e-mail addresses of your bridesmaids, and then let the system contact them all for sizing info, comments and such. When you're done you can print a sheet out with all their information, and you're good to go.

And we won't give your information out to anyone, I promise.
